Inside the town limits of Rosman, North Carolina, U.S. 178 is called Pickens Highway, referring to Pickens, South Carolina. Once U.S. 178 crosses the North Carolina state line into South Carolina, road signs frequently refer to the road as Moorefield Memorial Highway, commemorating a former South Carolina highway engineer of that name. Inside the city limits of Pickens, South Carolina, U.S. 178 is called Pendleton Street.
